Trondheim - October 2006
Trondheim Seminar – November 2006
The seminar in Trondheim had 3 main themes:
- Events as catalysts
- Culture and cultural planning
- Urban Governance
All 3 themes were discussed in relation to how they can contribute to the development of the nordic knowledge cities.
Charles Landry, an internationally known cultural- and urban planner and author of ’The Creative City’ (2000), presented his theories and concrete experiences regarding urban development. In his work Landry stresses the need for replacing a traditional, hierarchical and sectorial divided planning practice with a more holistic approach which encourages creativity and innovation across all levels.
For more than 25 years he has worked with cultural resources in the city and their creative potential in concrete urban development projects, e.g. establishing a department for urban research and development in the city of Huddersfield. Charles Landry has recently published the book ’The Art of City Making’ (2006). For more information on Charles Landry’s work, see www.charleslandry.com.
