A hybrid space in action
24.01.11 CITY CASE: NCN celebrates the new year and the new, expanded city case section with a reunion with LYNfabrikken in Aarhus. The participants at the seminar The Cultural City were experiencing a creative hybrid space in action by visiting the shop, coffee shop and office hotel located in an old factory building in the center of the city.
LYNfabrikken was started in 2002 as a private initiative by Jeppe Vedel and Lasse Schuleit. The goal was to create a different office hotel where creativity, network and people, was and still is, the key words.
"We want people to meet. Therefore, we created the interior of the shop and coffee shop so it signals that you are welcome to linger. When people sit here for longer, they start to talk, and we have seen many new collaborations arise," told Jeppe Vedel to a clearly impressed group from NCN.
The 30 tenants in the office hotel mentioned the possibility for interdisciplinary collaborations and excellent meeting facilities, as a special plus of the location. The coffee shop gives opportunities for an informal meeting space with potential customers, where sale of food and designproducts contributes to the creative atmosphere. LYNfabrikken also has its own window gallery that brings its vision down to street level, and an active website where all the lectures held at LYNfabrikken are published - for free. That way, Aarhus `s most important creative incubator continues to expand its network - far outside the city limits..
